Black Coffee:
Project Description:

Black Coffee is a new coffee brand searching for their identity to promote their new coffee and make their brand and packaging look cohesive.

In this personal project, I am building a brand from scratch starting from market research, logo designing, exploring colour palettes, typography, packaging design and mockups. This is the perfect project to do to help me understand better the proses that go into building and designing a brand.

Market Research:
To start this project I focused on market research, this research was not in-depth because I wanted to focus more on creating the visual of the brand but I still wanted to understand the industry to get the best outcome.

I started this research from the basics understanding of where coffee comes from ( Coffee comes from a tree called Coffea which is mostly found in Africa), and the different ways you can make coffee. After this basic research, I moved on to finding different brands to understand the coffees competition and get ideas on how I want this brand to look like.

Logo mood board :
The next step to take for this project was to create the logo to represent the brand. Before starting sketching the ideas of the logo I did some research and created a mood board to give me inspiration.

Logo :
Using one of the icons I have created before I tweaked it to change it in to a logo by adding the name of the brand "Black Coffee" and their catchphrase "Wake Up !". I changed the colour of the logo in grayscale, I think this is important to do if the logo is to be printed in grayscale the different colours and shapes should still be visible and distinct

Sketches :
After creating the mood board and carefool study of the images I moved on to sketching my ideas of the logo. I find the sketching by hand helpful to get my ideas out rapidly and to find them later on as a pate to lay on in illustrator.

Packaging mood board :
It was time to focus on the packaging that is going to be used for the brand, like always I started with a mood board showing the packaging of other brands and the competition that I have found in the market reattach. I have also included some patterns and symbols that can be used in the packaging to make it look more lively.

Icons :
From the sketching I got inspiration to creating icons that can be used in a website dedicated for the brand which will be created later on. The icons can be used to liven up the website or be used as bottoms.

Colour Palette :
The colour palette is very important for a brand to help them keep everything concise and for the customer to recognize the brand immediately. The main colour which is the first colour was taken from the logo the other 2 colours are changed depending on the flavour of the coffee. The grey colours are to be used for balance.

Type :
To accompany the packaging I needed to create some description of the product, in this section of the project I did some light study on the typography that would go well with the product.

Mockup :
Creating a mockup helps a lot to visualise the final product in its final form. For the mockup, I have found the different product to make packaging such as bru, pods, and beans.

Logo options :
To fit the logo in the different product it needed to be changed depending on the size and the form of the packaging. The logo needed to be changed for the size but it still needs to be looking similar to the original.
